It’s as if the series’ female characters, like Shahrzad, are trying to escape the cycle of violence through truth-telling, confession, or even simple conversation. And men in power, like Malek, are drawn to violent decisions out of fear of losing control.
Kiai consciously abandons the classic step-by-step format and character introductions and throws the audience directly into the middle of the crises. This narrative style, although confusing for some viewers, has a kind of honesty at its heart; because the world of the story is precisely a chaotic, tense, and irregular world that is not supposed to be tamed by the usual rules of storytelling.
